What are the advantages of SLS 3d printing process?

Compared with other rapid prototyping processes, the SLS 3d printing process for prototype production is unique in that it can directly produce metal prototypes. At the same time, this process also has the following advantages:

  1. The SLS 3d printing process is relatively simple, depending on the type and particle size of the material used, and the geometry and complexity of the prototype. The process can generally achieve a tolerance of ±0.15mm within the entire range of the prototype. When the powder particle size is less than 0.1mm,the accuracy of the prototype after molding can reach ±1%.
  2. There is no need to design a support structure, and the suspended layer that appears during the lamination process can be directly supported by the unsintered powder; and the material utilization rate is high, because there is no need to make a base support, the material utilization rate is high; the production cycle is short, and the application surface wide.

E-make company has 30 years of experience in custom-made production of rapid prototypes. The prototypes are exquisite in appearance, reliable in quality and delivered on time.If you want to customize the high-precision SLS 3d printing prototypes,E-make company is a good choice for you, and the quality rapid prototyping manufacturing service is waiting for you to experience. All information from customers was kept secret,we can sign an NDA with you before starting any work.

3D printing PLA material

3D printing PLA material

PLA (Poly Lactice Acid) is a new type of biodegradable material. It can be processed from starch raw materials , and the production process is pollution-free and can be degraded.

Material advantages:

Directly degradable environmentally friendly bioplastics, low melting point, small shrinkage ratio, not easy to warp or deform, good printing flatness, suitable for models that do not require processing.

Material weaknesses:

Temperatures above 60°C will deform PLA materials. PLA material is fragile and cannot be used to make handles for tools or parts that will drop repeatedly.

Precision:

0.2mm

Application:

Auto electronic lamps and other parts production.

Can be used for lens packaging fluid analysis RTV mold durable concept model wind test and other practical production activities

Note:

PLA can break if it is slightly bent and is not suitable for making thin things.

Customized Transparent Rapid Prototyping
There is two options for making transparent prototype as below.
For the prototype with simple structure,we can make a translucent prototype by 3D printing process, and then polish to make it transparently. For the prototype with complicated structure,we suggest that make it with acrylic material by CNC machining process.Acrylic material is not so rigid as PC material, but with better transparency. Also,PC material is not easy for polishing because of its rigidity.
According to our working experience,we suggest to use acrylic material to make the clear parts if you want the parts with excellent transparency.Although PC material and acrylic material have same clear transparency for mass production, acrylic is more easy to grinding and polishing.

Making Clear Prototype By 3D Printing

The surface of parts made by 3D printing is rough,so that we can not make the crystal clear prototype by 3D printing process directly, but the translucent prototype. It need to takes two steps before the parts made by 3D printing are crystal clear.
1.Get translucent prototype by 3D printing.
2.Grinding and polishing the prototype to make the surface are smooth and transparent. After that,it will be more clear if painting the varnish.

The Problem That Metal 3D Printing Have

The Problem That Metal 3D Printing Have
1.Surface Finish.
The surface of the metal parts that make by 3D printing is very rough.
2.Pore.
The inner of 3D printed metal parts will have small pore if the metal powder is not fully melted. These samll pore will reduce the density of parts and cause the crack and the fatigue problem. So that the choice of the metal powder is very important.
3.Density.
The density of the metal parts are inversely correlated with the quantity of small pore.Besides the quantity of small pore, the parts density also can be effect by the grain size of powder. Globular grain not only can improve the fluidity of powder, but also can improve the density of parts.
4.Residual Stress
The residual stress is cause by the heat and cold change, expansion and contraction during the 3D printing process. When the tensile strength of residual stress over than the material’s,the parts will have defect, such as crack.

What Material Can be Use For 3D Printing?

3D printing is a technology that we usually use in making prototyping.According to the different requirement of prototype, that different material with different specification is need. There is some material as below that can be use in 3D printing.

1.Polymer Material
With good strength, impact resistance and heat resistance, polimer material is a most widely used of 3D printing materials, which usually be use to make industrial parts. The common polymer material we use is ABS,PA,PC,PEEK,etc.

2.Metal Material
The form of metal material for 3D printing is metal powders, metal foil and metal wire.We can print these metal material by SLS,DMLS and EMB 3D pritning machine.

3.Ceramic Material.
Ceramic material with high strength, high hardness, low density and chemical resistance,is usually be use as aviation, car and home decoration material.

4.Composite Material
Carbon fiber is a emerging 3D printing material, with nice high temperature resistance and corrosion resistance
